What's Up at Myrtle Philip?

Important Information About E-Bikes and School Safety

We're seeing more students riding e-bikes to school. While this can be a fun and efficient way to travel, it's important for families to understand the risks and responsibilities that come with e-bike use.

According to ICBC and the BC government:

  • E-bikes capable of speeds over 32 km/h are considered motor vehicles and are not allowed for children under 16.
  • Helmets are mandatory for all e-bike riders, regardless of age.
  • Doubling (carrying a second passenger) is only legal if the bike is designed for two people and both wear helmets.
  • Riders must follow all the same rules of the road as cars.

For more information, visit the BC Government E-Bike Rules and Safety page.

At MPE:

  • All bikes need to be walked on school property especially at drop-off and pick-up times.
  • We will remind kids that helmets prevent brain injuries.
  • Email parents if kids come to school without helmets.

Thank you for working together to keep our students safe and supported!

Thanks

Thx
