Email to Parents (on Sept 9th 2020)

Dear families,

 

We have had a busy and productive two days here at MPE with our staff reviewing our Safety Plan for Exposure Control,  preparing classrooms for students, and working to build our class placements for the 2020/21 school year.  We have had many last-minute changes and student enrollments here at MPE and are working thought these changes to ensure our Learning Cohorts and classrooms are balanced and our students are supported with friends and are in positive pro-social environments. 

 

We understand that many of you are eager to hear details about the class placements.  We are working diligently to get this info to you ASAP.  We have almost completed the process and will be emailing you later this evening after placements have been finalized to ensure we have gone through our process in a careful and diligent way.  We have had an increasing number of class placement requests this year, and although we cannot guarantee that we are able to accommodate them all, we did discuss and deliberate over each one.   We could not have completed this process without your cooperation with surveys, phone calls, and emails over the past two weeks.  Please note, we will not be entertaining changes or adjustments to these class placements at this time, as we are not able to change Cohort groups until later in November.   If you do have some concerns about your child's’ placement, please wait 2 weeks to set up an appointment with me and we will look at ways to address your concerns moving forward.    Having just been part of the lengthy conversations and discussions over class placements I am very confident our Team has done an incredible job!

 

We posted School Startup information on our MPE website last week, however, we have had to make a few adjustments in response to increasing enrollment.  Here are a few more details and updated information to help with your planning for tomorrow and Friday. 

 

Where to Go on Thursday Morning

Parents will receive an email this evening once classes have been finalized.  The email will include a map and division number so your child knows where to go in the morning.

 

Students will go to their exterior classroom doors.  Each door will be marked with a large Division (DIV) number to indicate where they go.  

 

We will be initiating a soft start for students tomorrow.  We are asking ALL students to go directly to their new classroom in the am when they arrive on campus.   We will work with the students to teach them the COVID exposure control plans for recess and lunch supervision.  We had planned on a staggered arrival and dismissal time as we did in June, but with our bussing schedule, we were not able to effectively achieve this. 

 

Please communicate with your child as to where you will be picking them up prior to the end of day.   Parents are not to come into the school as we are a closed campus but can meet their child at their exterior classroom doors, or in a pre-planned pick-up area.  If you are waiting for your child at the end of the day, please remember to maintain social distancing on our campus.  Please note, we would also like families to leave the campus after pick-up as students are not permitted to stay and play at the end of the day.  

 

Please note that with increased enrolment and a reduction in capacity for bus transportation we are anticipating an increase in morning and afternoon traffic here at the school.  Please follow all traffic guidelines.  We have done tremendous amount of work to ensure our pick up and drop off is a safe and controlled environment for our students. 

 

Please park away from the school and walk to the campus or plan to carpool or ride your bikes to avoid congestion.    

 

If you are planning to park your car please do so in designated spots, and not in the bus loop or pick/up drop off loop.

School Supplies

Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies tomorrow.   Your classroom teacher will help them when they arrive and get their materials sorted. 

 

The school supplies that have been sent to the school will be distributed to the appropriate classroom.    

 

 

Our Learning Cohorts:

 

With the added enrollment over the past two weeks, we have had to make some adjustments to our COVID exposure control plan safety plan and have since adjusted our Learning Cohorts from 6 to 8. 

 

A – 6/7 & 4/5 class (DIV 1 and DIV 5)

B -  6/7 & 4/5  (DIV 2 and DIV 4)

C – 6/7 & 4/5  (DiV 3 and DiV 6)

D -  3/4 (DIV 7)

E – 2/3 and 2/3 – (DIV 8 & 9)

F – Grade 2/3 and 1/2 (DIV 10 & 11)

G – 2 K/1 classes (DIV 12 & 13)

H – 2 K/1 Classes (DIV 14 & 15)

 

 

Kindergarten

We have added another K/1 class to accommodate increasing enrollment.  We will be updating our Kindergarten orientation information on the website.  Your K/1 teacher will contact you before Friday to book an interview time with you on Monday or Tuesday next week.  All Kindergarten students will have a half-day on Wednesday the 16th and will be in session for a full day on the 17th.

 

Chromebooks

If you signed out a Chromebook last spring, could you please bring it back to school as early as possible.  Please ensure you also return the power charger.  Chromebooks will be collected by your classroom teacher and brought to the library for disinfecting and re-deployment for school use.

 

 

Bus Schedule

Our transportation department is finalizing our bus schedules, and these will be posted on our website this evening.  As you can imagine this has been a tremendous amount of reorganization and tracking of students.  We will be continuing to work with the transportation department to ensure we are providing the best service we can.  

 

School will work a little differently this year.  I know this is a challenging and anxious time for students and families.  We are doing everything we can to ensure they land back at school in as comfortable a way as possible.
