June is National Indigenous History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada. The Sea to Sky School District joins the nation in honouring Indigenous communities' history, achievements, and resilience. Throughout June, we encourage students, staff, and the broader community to engage with Indigenous stories, traditions, and cultures to gain a deeper understanding of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis experiences. May 5 is Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness and Action honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People (MMIWG2S+). Originating from the REDress Project by Métis artist Jaime Black, this day is marked by red dresses displayed in public spaces and worn in solidarity. May 2026 is Child Care Month in B.C., with Child Care Provider Appreciation Day on Friday, May 8. This month recognizes the essential role child care professionals play in supporting children, families, and communities. Their dedication and expertise create safe, nurturing environments where children can learn and thrive, with lasting impacts on early learning and family well-being across the province. Minister Beare’s statement for Child Care Month is available to read, and the ministry looks forward to engaging with families and child care professionals throughout May on the future of child care in B.C.

Canadian Mental Health Week is a time to raise awareness and support positive mental health. Sea to Sky School District is recognizing this year’s theme, Come Together, Canada, which focuses on the role connection plays in well-being. Many people across Canada are experiencing loneliness. In the Sea to Sky School District, we encourage all students, staff, and families to be mindful stewards of our surroundings. On April 15, we celebrate School Bus Driver Appreciation Day across the Sea to Sky School District! We are grateful for our dedicated bus drivers who go above and beyond to ensure students travel to and from school safely each day.
